When Interpol Comes Calling…™
INTERNATIONAL CRIMINAL LAW
International crimes are distinguished from transnational crimes in that they constitute an offense against all nations of the world, or perhaps to the useful fiction of the international world order.
Persons accused of international crimes are charged either under the statute of an international criminal tribunal or under national law (usually incorporating treaty law), by way of a claim of universal jurisdiction.
The firm's International Practice Group knows that it is as true for international criminal proceedings as it is for federal criminal proceedings, that the earlier you can begin developing a strategy, the better. There may be very short deadlines for challenging a foreign arrest warrant or the jurisdiction of the charging court, for instance.
